Meet Jessica Landzaad, Music Therapist

Danya Maree
This month's "Woman in the Spotlight" is Music Therapist and Business Owner, Jessica. Read our full interview with her below.

What are some of your notable achievements or activities so far? - "I have recently graduated with my Masters in Music Therapy (with distinction and awarded honorary academic colours), and recently registered with the Health professions council of South Africa."

What are some noteworthy things you are working on as a Music Therapist? - "I have begun the journey of starting my dream o - "Empowering women is something that is close to my heart. I grew up with a single mother and I have witnessed part of the struggles that exist in equal access to opportunity. I am the first female in my family to go to a university, never mind to graduate with a masters degree. My younger cousins are following in my footsteps which is wonderful to see. As a music psychotherapist my vision for any person or community who comes through my door is empowerment. In my work and with my business I truly hope to foster an ethic of equality and fairness. Women (especially in therapy, teaching, nursing and similar disciplines) are seen as the nurturers and carers, but I want to show that that is not all we are. Women can also be CEOs, make difficult decisions, be independent, tough and straightforward. Women can fight for rights and do the physical work. We are just as capable. My message today is that I believe the world would benefit from learning to have more "feminine characteristics". In the words of the Dalai Lama - "The planet does not need more successful businessmen. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of all kinds.""
