Danya Maree
This month, we decided to interview epidemiologist in public health, Nomathamsanqa, about her inspiring career, activities and vision for women.

What notable experiences have you had so far in your career as an epidemiologist in public health? - "I supported the COVID-19 outbreak response team in Gauteng province. I also presented at FIDSSA conference on Malaria in Gauteng province" (8th-FIDSSA-CONGRESS-2019-Programme_2019_10_28-002.pdf (fidssacongress.co.za)

Tell us about your educational background, for those following in similar footsteps - "I graduated from the university of Cape Town with a MPH Epidemiology, and a distinction in coursework"

What are some noteworthy things you are currently working on? - "I am the Director of Read Write Rise for Christ, an NGO that exists to enable children and young people to realise their potential to help other children and young people through reading, writing and selling stories and poems that will raise funds for other children and young ones to go to school. On Facebook, we are @rdubsr.readwriterise. Our books are sold at Stories From Way Above - Khensanis Collection and Stories From Way Above eBook : NGO, RdubsR: Amazon.in: Kindle Store. The second edition consists of stories written by children from Diepsloot, a township in South Africa and is being sold to help raise funds to build mission schools in Mozambique through Mission Life.org.

I wrote a book for healing for women at church called "Sweet Kisses on a Rose". It’s a fictional tale that relates the story of a woman who was injured in her childhood and how God intervenes in her life and brings about the healing and wholeness she knows she needs but can’t understand how to receive. It’s on sale on Kindle: Sweet Kisses on a Rose eBook : Ndhlovu, Nomathamsanqa: Amazon.ca: Books

I am also working on a musical called “Life Group” for churches. It’s a musical aimed at encouraging people to join small or cell groups to grow in faith in Jesus Christ. This musical uses humour and entertainment to help people understand the importance of these groups and the capacity for growth within them. We grow in Christ through community and friendships."

What is your vision for female empowerment for the next 10 years, within your profession and in general? - "I see women being set free to reach their full potential in all spheres of life. If a woman is a scientist, let her be the best scientist and make a difference for Gods kingdom where she is placed. If she is a wife, let her be the best wife and make a difference in that sphere for Gods kingdom. I see women being empowered through grace and love to go and fight for souls for Gods kingdom and for God’s love to be present here on earth. I also see women going and proclaiming freedom to other women that they may know their full potential and never live in the shadow of darkness but know that they are the light and salt of the earth in Christ Jesus."

We would like to thank Nomathamsanqa for being an inspiration and a role model to other young women following similar paths, and for taking part in this month's TRWLA Women in the Spotlight feature.
